Cyber-bullying bill clears the state Senate on a unanimous vote - Capitol Watch
Cyber-bullying bill clears the state Senate on a unanimous vote - Capitol Watch
A bill that aims to prevent cyber-bullying passed the state Senate unanimously today.
Lawmakers discussed the measure for about an hour and, after agreeing it was a good idea, placed the item on the consent calendar. It was approved this evening.
The bill would give school officials a tool to intervene when students are harassed or threatened through electronic means. It would require that school principals ensure a safe environment exists at every school and provide training in suicide prevention to teachers and other education officials.

Using Public Service Announcements To Prevent Cyberbullying | Cyberbullying Research Center Blog
A fun and often-recommended activity to engage youth in considering the responsible use of technology and promoting that message across the student body (or beyond) involves the creation of Public Service Announcements (PSAs). These are creative and informative videos designed to bring attention to a problem relevant to a certain audience, and make a memorable point about it. Often, they promote awareness of a particularly compelling social issue, and work to encourage individuals to act in positive, appropriate ways. They also tend to have a “coolness” factor not present in a handful of other awareness initiatives.

Should Young Kids be on Facebook? Experts Are Skeptical | PCWorld
Should Young Kids be on Facebook? Experts Are Skeptical | PCWorld
Over the weekend Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg made comments suggesting he wants to get younger kids using the social networking site. Zuckerberg framed Facebook as a tool to help educate children about using the internet before suggesting that COPPA, a federal law designed to protect the online privacy of children under the age of 13, is standing in the way of that goal.

Digital Literacy Tour
Digital Literacy Tour: "At Google, we support the education of families on how to stay safe online. That's why we've teamed up with online safety organization iKeepSafe to develop curriculum that educators can use in the classroom to teach what it means to be a responsible online citizen.
The curriculum is designed to be interactive, discussion filled and allow students to learn through hands-on and scenario activities. On this site you'll find a resource booklet for both educators and students that can be downloaded in PDF form, presentations to accompany the lesson and animated videos to help frame the conversation."
